March

March is national nutrition month in the USA.  The Weston A Price Foundation has lots of good information about nutrient dense foods.  Eating on the Wild Side, by Jo Robinson is a fun book which can teach about how to choose the more nutritious foods.  But our current farm system is depleting our soil of nutrients.  She says over the last 30 years or so that process has been dramatic.

Dr Mark Hyman’s books educate about our current food system which he and others say is eroding our health if not killing us.  These books also have some recipes.  Not everything needs here to be cooked.🙂

In 2012 Mark Hyman released #1 bestseller, The Blood Sugar Solution.  I think there is a lot of practical advice for everyone living in the USA.  Starting the day with protein.  Eggs are an excellent choice.  There are some recipes included but it’s not a cookbook.

He explains about some of the doctors are now looking at the causes of disease, and addressing  those.  This is different from prescribing a medication for a symptom which he learned to do a long time ago in medical school.

The Food Fix, another Mark Hyman book, looks at the socio-political factors responsible for poor quality of food, poverty, and chronic disease.  It is a call to action.
